In healthcare the software engineering specialties have not yet specifically organized activities with the healthcare specialty disciplines to mutually explore the  implementation issues for healthcare concepts that provide special problems or approaches to crafting quality, effective healthcare enterprise information architectures. The IOM report “Crossing the Quality Chasm:”  (Ref A12) clearly identified the need for such multidisciplinary approaches. The proposed Guide to the Health Informatics Body of Knowledge (HIBOK) that holds much in common with the software engineering SWEBOK project is one initiative that holds promise. However, numerous other specific working forums are clearly needed.
