DISA serves as the sponsoring organization for the ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12. ASC X12 has a number of Subcommittees and that most significant for the EHR is X12N on Insurance which is responsible for the administrative transactions for healthcare under PL 104-191 (HIPAA). These transactions relate to the resource management  function supporting the EHR. The Data Interchange Standards Association is a non-profit industry association established for cross-industry electronic business interchange standards ( see: http://www.disa.org/). The ASC website http://www.x12.org/x12org/index.cfm presents the program of X12 in all areas including healthcare.
