The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) is a large engineering professional association which has organized extensive Standards activities within its several Societies. The IEEE Computer Society is one of the largest of these societies and manages the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for several Subcommittees of the International Standards Organization/International Electrotechnical Commission  Joint Technical Committee 1 (ISO/IEC JTC1). One of these is Subcommittee 7 (SC7) on Software Engineering. SC7 is important for the EHR because its general Life Cycle Principles can be directly applied to the engineering of healthcare enterprise information architectures that host the EHR.
