This site has been created by the Division of Information Technology and Research (DITR) of the Department of Oral Medicine School of Dentistry which hosts this site and collaborates with the Health Information Administration Program of the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine in building and maintaining the site.  It purpose is to educate and inform health professional disciplines about the origins, structure and intended uses of the Electronic Health Record in the unified support of both patient care and resource management within healthcare. It also cooperates in developing the website content with the following professional organizations:

American Association for Clinical Chemistry Laboratory Information Systems and Medical Informatics Division

The Electronic Health Record (EHR) is becoming a key tool in patient care and resource management in Health Care as the limitations of paper records are being recognized. This site has therefore been created to help all healthcare professional disciplines understand the nature and progress of its evolution and to help them understand the EHR’s many dimensions and implications.  The intended audiences are each healthcare professional specialty discipline and those supporting disciplines that comprise the healthcare community. It is intended to organize the numerous perspectives in such a way that the viewer can easily navigate to the subject of current interest.
